  • Vacation .....at last

It sure was nice to finally get to go on vacation this year, we usually go in March so this was late for us. We started out on thursday night April 24th after work. The suitcases were all packed and the dog and cat at the kennel. We decided to stop about halfway in Elkhart, Indiana. Then the next morning we drove the rest of the way to Oregon, Illinois. There is a nice little , not fancy lodge there that we like to stay at called "chateau lodge:" Friday evening we had dinner with Ben , Emily and the "beautiful baby girls" .  Saturday I   put together the "teddy bear castle cake" for the girls birthdays. Sunday was church were we made new friends and shared the birthday castle cake. The church had a praise and worship band in which Emily's sister Carrie sang in.  On Monday I babysat the gorgeous baby girls and the knight and Matthew went to the "John Deere " historical site. Ben made us dinner that night pizza , Saturday night he made salt potatoes and pork chops....you know my son really can cook, Emily made peach cobbler just special for "dad",it was so good. On Tuesday I went with Emily to the laundromat and ....well you know, did the laundry. We got the chance to chat a little and pick up Ben for lunch. Wednesday we spent the day in Moline, Illinois at the "John Deere" museum and then to the historical site again. That night for supper I made spaghetti and meatballs, and we  said our goodbyes. On Thursday we drove straight home, starting out at 5AM and getting home at 9:30PM.  We had a wonderful time just spending time with the everyone, just wish that they didn't live so very far away.

  • Spring and Easter

Spring is here, officially came last week. We are enjoying the birds singing in the trees, but not all the mud and brown grass. I have to admit that Spring although nice is not my favorite time of the year, at least the first part of Spring. In a month or so the grass will be green and the trees will get their leaves  the flowers will awaken from their Winter sleep, then it will be nice. I am waiting especially for my tulips to come up that I planted in the fall, I just love tulips. Another thing about Spring is that it is looks warmer than it really is outside and all the mud that gets tracked into the hou7se. I have to patiently wait until the ground dries a little and then shampoo all the carpets, and it is hard to wait I always want it done right away,so that it doesn't have to be redone. I have been also enjoying going for walks with my dog, Rusty. He is a really good dog just very little brain. But then he is a typical Golden, from what I have read.

My knight and I , along with Matthew and Rusty, went doublewide shopping last Tuesday. We found one that we both really liked. We are really hoping to get into a new place soon, just a little more time.

Easter was a good day for us as we went to the sunrise service ,breakfast, and the morning church service. All at our church. The sunrise service was actually a couple hours after sunrise, but I think that things flowed much better this year than in years past where we had a couple hours in between. When my parents were still alive we would use those couple hours to go and see them as they couldn't really get out much anymore at that point in their lives. Kinda miss it , but kinda don't.

We had Easter dinner at our friends house. They always do such a wonderful job , but this year was over the top. I think that half the people from church were there. It was a lot of fun to sit and talk to people that we don't always get a opportunity to see. I got to help with the dishes , which brought back many good memories of Easter past . You know you really can have some good conversation while doing the dishes.

The evening service, at church, was a readers theater. It was written by our pastor who is very talented with writing skits, plays and readers theaters.

I made up several Easter baskets for my grandchildren. Sent out the girls theirs last week and Cameron got his on Sunday at breakfast. You should have seen his face as he helped his dad open it...it was a true Kodak moment.

  • Cold inside and Out

Here in New York you never get bored with the weather, one day it is sunshine and the next it is snowing. I love the diversity of the seasons that we have here. In the winter we have snow, ice and cold. The storm that we had this weekend  had snow, ice, freezing rain, rain, freezing fog and just plain cold. The weight of the snow and ice on the trees weighed them down so that many branches broke under the weight. There were power outages everywhere....even here. We were without electric, which means no lights, heat, and water because the pipes froze also for the whole night. You can imagine how cold it got inside our little castle, it  got down to about 30 degrees. Kinda cold if you ask me, and is okay if you are outside, but not for the inside. To complicate things even more it was the night that we were susposed to turn the clocks ahead one hour for daylight savings time. Well needless to say the clocks didn't get turned ahead until this morning, not that anyone really slept as it was just too cold. My knight got up about 3am and started the space heater, which had enough fuel in it for an hour, but he was concerned that our birds would die.   He then got up this morning and went to get some more kerosene and also brought me home a cup of coffee and breakfast.....as close to breakfast in bed as I will ever get[ I was already up and all dressed and ready for church as we teach a children's classby the time he got back.]  The electric came back on just before he got back from the store. The house is now warm and we have lights.  We are thankful for God's protection over us, it could have been worse. As for my work, I worked Saturday . I didn't know it when I went into work yesterday morning that I was going to be there from 8am until 9:30 pm, with one two hour break. It was truly a long day to come home to no electric and no heat after working all day.

  • Robins, Work and Stuff

You know that Spring is coming when you see a flock of Robins arriving and landing in your yard. It is nice to see them back, actually they flew in yesterday morning. I was sitting here at the computer and watched them land and listened to their beautiful singing. I had a boss one time that would always try and see the first robin. He always saw the first one , no matter how hard I tried to see one first. Every year now when I see one I remember him and just have to smile to myself, he has since gone on to heaven .

Work is just that work.Paychecks didn't come in on Friday as they should have and they aren't sure at this point when they are going to be able to pay us. Maybe the 16th, but not sure. I am thankful that we do have a savings account and that my Knight takes good care of me. I am just hoping that the paychecks come in soon.

Pets can be and are such a blessing, however they can also be trouble. We aren't quite sure how it happened that one of the bird cages fell off the table that they are on, but it did. It could have been one of the three cats or was it my parrot just getting bored. Anyway the cage had seven finches in it. Matthew and I had to find and catch them. This was much easier said than done. Finches are a very small bird and they fly fast. We did find and catch all of them by bedtime,  however we had to put them in another cage. The cockatiels now have new roommates.....the finches. I would buy a new cage, however there is the issue of the paycheck as mentioned earlier.  And speaking of cats there are two of them who have taken up residence under the our trailer. Which makes the indoor cats unhappy. They are taking off the register covers at night to get to these intruders and defend their home. However if you have ever walked around in the dark you know how hard it can be to see where you are walking. So far no one has stepped into the register , but I think that it could happen. I have also put something on each of them so to make it harder for the cats.

My car is in the shop today.... not to worry only for the basics, oil change, tire rotation and to get the gas cover so that it will open so that I can put gas in. Yes, I did say gas cover, it is getting stuck on something inside and it is a two person job to open it....one to pull the lever and one to jiggle the gas cover. Life is fun here what can I say....just laugh, that is what I do.

  • Some Days

Winter here in New York is a little cold at times outside, but when it is cold inside you know that there is a problem. We woke up Tuesday morning at 5am to it being cold inside. My knight determined that the problem was that we were out of heating fuel.....not supposed to happen when you have automatic delivery, but it did. I called the fuel company, obviously got someone out of bed as they were very groggy. The driver of the heating oil truck called to let us know that he was about 2 hours away from being able to deliver fuel. So we brought in the kerosene space heater and got that started, actually my knight did that part. It helped to keep our house warm, but my cats didn't like it being there. It must have gotten sprayed by a male cat while stored in our garage as my Persian cat decided to make his own mark somewhere in the house. That is all I will say about that. The space heater is now back out in the garage to be cleaned up before the next time we need it, and my cat is happy again.
